Summary:Colour postcard [blank on verso] advertising Barbour's Linen Thread, featuring a colour illustration of a tall, thin man, needle and thread in hand, sewing a large patch of white coloured material to the bottom of a small boy's green trousers - while he is wearing them. The little boy is seen from behind, the top half of his body resting on a table. He looks out of the window in front of him. The text printed on the postcard in Italian roughly translates as 'The Vigilant Father. Linen yarn [thread]. Thread for shoemakers. Barbour". Barbour's Flax Mill located at Hilden outside Lisburn, Co. Antrim, (established in 1784) was one of the largest producers of linen thread in the world. Over a number of years, their distribution company, The Barbour Brothers, New York organised a series of competitions for prizes in lacemaking etc.; see item held at NLI call number 14A 555. The factory closed in 2006.
