Summary:Election handbill for the 1917 East Clare by-election calling on people to vote for Eamon De Valera. With the initials of the illustrator "T.O'M." under a rock, underneath where Lynch is depicted. In the East Clare by-election of 1917, Patrick Lynch stood for the Irish Parliamentary Party and De Valera stood for Sinn Féin - De Valera won the seat. On the right hand side is a signpost with an arrow pointing that reads "De Valera, the peace conference"' A woman [Hibernia, representing Ireland] stands at the sign, manacled with two shackles on her wrists that read "Foreign Rule" and "Taxation" The road leads down a path towards sunlight with the word "Freedom" emanating from its' rays. On the left hand side is a signpost with an arrow pointing that reads "Lynch / The Sham Convention & Humbug". A barristers' wig hangs from the sign. An old man [with the body of a sprite] is depicted sitting on the branch of a tree with a small lamp that reads "Sham Convention"; the landscape depicted is barren, dark and desolate.
