Summary: | A generation ago Coleraine boasted a number of family owned grocery shops, butchers, bakeries, and tabaconists whilist every street had a corner shop where such staples as bread, milk, and aganettes were only a stones throw away. the weekly box of groceries packed by hand were deliveredand the shopkeeper knew thickly every customer liked his bacon sliced and what brand of tea he favoued. Now supermarkets like Wellworths on the outskirts of Coleraine are the nrom they sell everything from meat to garden plants whilst piped music replaces conversation and pilled up trollies filled with prepacked goods and car transportation replaces the messengers boys bike!. |
