Regan, 1833-1897, a native of Cork who immigrated to America in 1854. He was a printer by profession and enlisted on June 11, 1861 in the Ninth Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment. This regiment was Boston's Irish Regiment, the Fighting Ninth. He was discharged on June 21, 1864. He had been captured by the Confederates but the diary was kept by a friend.
