This lost diary was in the possession of Kenneth Pluskat when it was published. The diary was discovered to have been written by Timothy J. Regan, 1833-1897, a native of Cork who immigrated to America in 1854. He was a printer by profession and enlisted on June 11, 1861 in the Ninth Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment. This regiment was Boston's Irish Regiment, the Fighting Ninth. He was discharged on June 21, 1864. He had been captured by the Confederates but the diary was kept by a friend. Regan continued to make entries up until 1876. He died in Boston in 1897.
