Summary:This letter is dated 10th August and is written on white paper embossed with the device of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. Macready comments on the present political and security situation in Ireland; he says that no Irish person he has spoken to, of any political persuasion, is in favour of the present Home Rule Bill; that Lord French is thoroughly 'fed up' and that Hamar Greenwood's 'colonial manner does not go down with the Irish'. He recommends Toynbee to read 'The Resurrection of Hungary' by Arthur Griffith. He makes some general comments about what it is like living in Dublin at that time; and refers to a visit from his son, who has since returned to his post in Poland, where he was Chief of Mission organising the Polish National Police. The rest of the letter is taken up with personal comments and enquiries.
