Notes: | Hamar Greenwood was the last Chief Secretary of Ireland. Terence MacSwiney, Lord Mayor of Cork, died in Brixton Prison on 25th October 1920 on the seventy-fourth day of a hunger strike. His case attracted a huge amount of international attention and support. Sir Nevil Macready was general officer commanding the army in Ireland from the spring of 1920. He took the job only as a favour to the Lord Lieutenant, Lord French, as he said that he loathed Ireland and the Irish more even than he hated the Germans. Physical description: 2 items. more |
