| Summary: | Writes: "I feel that you cannot be aware of the facts of my claim in offering me such an award. My claim was not on behalf of one son, but of my two only sons, Padraig and Willie Pearse ... I am fully aware of the pensions given to my fellow-sufferers of 1916. I would like to call your attention to the fact that, whereas in their case their sons are now growing into manhood and, therefore, in a position to provide a home in old age for their mothers, I gave, willingly, my only two boys in prime of manhood - for their country, and I hardly think the country would be satisfied to see their mother and invalid sister struggling on £2 weekly." She mentions her daughter Mary Brigid Pearse, is "a complete invalid". The award certificate in question (MS 21,059/20/8), also included monthly "back money from 1922". |
