Hand-coloured illustration on cover of card features an image of an exuberant young woman with her back to the viewer; she is standing outside on a headland, in a coastal landscape, a beach is located to her right. She is depicted holding a bunch of yellow flowers in her left hand while in front of her, framed within two trees is a large golden ring - at top of the ring are the masks of tragedy and comedy and at the bottom of the ring is an artists' palette and paint brushes. Printed inside card is the menu for the dinner [in French] - 'Petite Marmite Henri IV / Paupiette de Sole Otéro / Tournedos Rossini / Haricots Verts au Beurre / Pommes Nouvelles persillées / Supreme de Poulet en Aspic / Salade Panachée / Bombe Monte Carlo / Petits Fours / Champignons et lard sur Canapé / Café". The Society of the Friends of the National Collections of Ireland (FNCI) was founded in 1924 by Sarah Purser at an inaugural meeting held in the Royal Irish Academy, Dublin. Their initial stated purpose was “to secure works of art and objects of historic interest or importance for the national or public collections of Ireland by purchase, gift or bequest”.
