Summary:Broadside, featuring a black and white head and shoulders image of Charles J. Haughey, underneath which is printed "Charles J. Haughey, President of Fianna Fáil" and the logo of the Fianna Fáil party at top left of sheet. The Anglo-Irish Agreement was signed on 15 November 1985 in Hillsborough Castle, by the then British prime minister, Margaret Thatcher (1925-2013) and the Irish Taoiseach, Garret FitzGerald (1926-2011). The Anglo-Irish Agreement indirectly also affected the outcome of the election of Charles Haughey as Taoiseach in the aftermath of the 1987 Irish general election - when it came to electing a Taoiseach in the Dáil, Independent T.D. Tony Gregory voted against Garret Fitzgerald and abstained in the vote for Haughey [viewing the latter "as the "lesser of two evils", due to Tony Gregory's opposition to the Anglo- Irish Agreement along with his own personal dislike of Garret FitzGerald]. Haughey was subsequently elected Taoiseach on 10 March 1987 on the casting vote of the Ceann Comhairle.
