Summary:South Armagh by-election campaign handbill in support of Sinn Féin candidate Patrick MacCartan [the by-election was held on 2 February 1918; due to the death of the incumbent Irish Parliamentary Party M.P., Charles O'Neill; the seat was won by the Irish Parliamentary Party candidate Patrick Donnell]. This handbill features a similar image to that present at top of handbill EPH A173, which feature the skeletons of Irish Volunteer soldiers who have died pointing skywards at an image of the famous recruitment poster featuring John Redmond (that said "Your first duty is to take your part in ending the war : join an Irish regiment to-day); their graves, marked with white crosses, are depicted in the background. Under this image is the following text: "Redmond's Advice! Fathers of Armagh! Do you want your boys to LIVE IN IRELAND instead of dying in France, Flanders, Egypt, &c ; A Vote For McCARTAN is a vote against conscription".
