| Notes: | The war with England was just a generation prior to this oration so Binns' slashing denunciation of the British was to be expected. The treatment of the Irish by the English is also highlighted as well as the continuing impressment of American sailors by the British navy. In March 1802, Binns had commenced at Northumberland, Pennsylvania, the Republican Argus, which gave him great influence with the Democratic party. From 1807 to 1829 he conducted, at Philadelphia, the Democratic Press - the leading paper in the state, until 1824, when it opposed the election of Jackson.
