Main Creator: New Ireland Assurance Company
Summary:Commemorative calendar for the Easter Rising for 1966 issued by the New Ireland Assurance Company. Calendar has tearaway sheets for each month of the year. Underneath the months is a short paragraph on the 1916 Rising. The top of the calendar has a green ribbon for hanging. It features an illustration of a woman [Erin, Hibernia] wearing a green cloak and white dress; she is holding a sword. A man with blond hair is shackled to her and he is collapsing [not disimilar to Irish sculptor Oliver Sheppard's 'Death of Cuchulainn', 1911 bronze statute in the G.P.O., Dublin]. Erin/Hibernia stands on a pile of rubble, looking out towards the G.P.O. (which is in flames). Quotation printed underneath illustration is from Padraic Pearse - 'Life springs from death; and from the graves of patriot men and women spring living nations.' Note that printed underneath the illustration is 'This design was dervied from the bronze figures by Yann Renard-Goulet, U.S.B. Koatkeo'. A note printed on calendar states that the company funds exceed £22,000,000. (the company when active dealt with life insurance, annuities, house purchase, pension schemes, endowment, educational policies and defererred assurances).
