Summary:This building which now houses the Birr Outdoor Pursiuits Centre caters for groups of children and teenagers from all over the country. They use it as their base for all sorts of outdoor activities, eg, rock-climbing, orienteering, walking tours, canoeing etc. Also, in summertime it caters for foreign students who undertake English language courses here. Before the building was taken over for its present use, it served since the 1940s as a vocational school for Birr and the surrounding area. It ceased as a school with the opening of the new Birr Community School. The centre has also a fine Slieve Bloom Geological interpretive display on view there.
