Summary: | The former site of the Northern Counties Hotel consists of the remains of the hotel walls. The structure is rife with broken brick, stone, glass and weeds. Utterly changed from the orignal hotel bulit up by John Boyd, M.D, in 1837, and named The Antrim Arms. This hotel was bought by the Belfast and Northern Counties Railway Company in 1883, renamed the Northern Counties Hotel and much extended in 1884 and 1892. Advertised in 1899 as 'affording ample accommodation to tourists, families and gentlemen. It is one of the best hotels in Ireland containing, besides numerous suites of apartments, over 120 bedrooms'. |
