Summary: | The Courthouse is in the centre of the town. It was erected between 1829 & 1831 by order of the Westmeath Grand Jury. The cost of erection was £3,100. The site was donated by Lord Castlemaine, the owner of the town.It is still in use as a courthouse. At the rere of the Courthouse was a bridewell with 6 cells, and it was last used about 1900 and now houses the Moate Historical Society's Museum. |
