Summary:Jonathan Swift, (1667-1745), D.D., Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, satirist; nearly whole-length, to right, facing towards and looking to front, seated, in wig, gown and bands, opening in waistcoat showing white vest, right arm on arm of chair, book in hand, left hand on table to right on which lie a book and square cap, bookshelves behind, on top of chair at back a carved harp and crown.

According to Elmes, most probably this portrait by Markham was copied from one of Bindon's portraits, it is most unlikely that Markham ever painted the Dean.
