| Summary: | On the night of 2nd February 1920, a short distance west of the Tigh Molly inn on Lochán Beag in Cois Farraige in Co. Galway, arose between two brothers and a gang of Óglach. Some time later, both were hit, and one of them was killed. The one who was cast, Patrick Thornton, was a former soldier in the Connaught Rangers in the English Army. He gave some names to the RIC people the next day, and four people were taken. The injury worsened and Thornton died a few days later. The four were put on trial, found guilty of assaulting Thornton, and imprisoned. |
