Notes: | Count Laval Nugent von Westmeath, (1777-1862), was a soldier of Irish birth, who fought in the armies of Austria and the Two Sicilies and was in command of the army of Naples, with the rank of Captain-General [1817-1820]; he received the title of Field Marshal in 1849. Born in Ballynacor, Co. Westmeath he was the son of John Nugent, who died when he was four and in 1789 he moved to Austria, where he was adopted by his uncle Oliver, Count Nugent, a colonel in the Austrian army. He was created Count (Graf) Nugent of Westmeath by Emperor Ferdinand I in Vienna on 27 November 1847. Physical description: 1 folder. more |
