John Bassegio served as wig dresser to King George IV and the Lord Lieutenant. Originally from Switzerland, he purchased the office of Sergeant of the Battleaxe Guard [equivalent of the Beefeaters at Tower of London] at Dublin Castle (this position was abolished in 1831). |
