Summary: | The second postcard in a set of postcards entitled 'Neddy's Happy Christmas', advertising the work of the children's home known variously as the Birds' Nest and Mission Ragged Schools; the Bird's Nest Home, Kingstown or The Bird's Nest. It was located at York Road, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin and founded in 1859 by a Mrs Smyly. It was subsequently run by the Smyly Trust and closed in 1975. This card features a colour image of Neddy, who is seen from behind. A small, barefoot, red haired boy, who is wearing ragged clothing, is bent over, crying. In front of him, opening the front door stands Amy, a blonde haired, well-dressed child. Underneath this scene is printed the verse, a branch of a tree is depicted at left of scene with a bird perched on a branch while another bird is depicted at right. |
