Summary:After William Heath's satirical print 'Military Dandies or Heroes of 1818' published 26 october 1818 by S.W. [Samuel William] Fores, 50 Piccadilly and 312 Oxford Street. See BM Satires 13059. This print lettered with title 'Military Dandies, or Heroes of 1819' and underneath this within plate mark "Pub. by McCleary Nassau St Dublin". Several officers are depicted promenading, three couples walk arm-in-arm. In the foreground a lancer with a moustache, stares at a taller and more dignified Life Guards officer wearing a huge plume on the crest of his helmet. All officers have small waists and wear with belts or sashes; they have bulging chests and wear high collars and narrow coat-tails. They all have tight sleeves, high padded shoulders with plumes or animal hair projecting from the helmet or large shako [a tall, cylindrical military hat] they wear. A Life Guards in the left background wears a pair of boots, wide at the top, that almost reaches his thigh. At right, an officer seen from behind [possibly the Duke of York?], wears the plumed hat of a field-marshal and walks is arm-in-arm with a tall thin officer.
