This handbill was included in letters addressed to 'An Runai, Gach Cumann' [The Secretary, Each Branch] of Sinn Féin asking that the contents of this handbill should be read out after every Mass 'in your area' on 16 December 1956. 'The Border Campaign' was launched by the I.R.A. on 12 December 1956 and officially ended on 26 February 1962. Devised by Seán Cronin and codenamed 'Operation Harvest', it began in the early hours of 12 December 1956 with attacks on a number of targets north of the border - a BBC relay transmitter was bombed in Derry, a courthouse was burned in Magherafelt and a half-built army barracks in Enniskillen was blown up.
