Summary:Illustrated almanac with calendar for the year 1856 with information relating to Co, Clare such as dates of fairs to be held in the county, dates of fairs held in "...Towns adjacent to Clare", "Departure and Arrival of the Mails". A highly decorative border and illustrations by C. Branston, London depicting scenes relating to the Crimean War feature on the sheet. At top is an image of Balmoral Castle, Aberdeenshire, Scotland [a residence for members of the British royal family from 1852] and the bottom is an image entitled "The Tuileries - The Paris Residence of Napoleon III". The coat of arms of Britain, Turkey, France and Sardinia are featured on the sheet along with six scenes of major battles during the Crimean War - 'Balaclava' [Balaklava]; 'The Redan'; 'Syeaborg' [Suomenlinna]; 'Inkerman'; 'The Malakoff' and 'The Tchernaya' [also Chernaya]. At bottom left of sheet is an illustration of soldiers in military uniforms entitled "Grenadier - Jack Tars - Soldiers of the Line"; at bottom right of sheet is a similar illustration entitled: "Turk - Souave - French - And Sardinian Soldiers".
