Summary:Portait of Darrell Figgis, seated in a prison cell, wearing prison uniform and cap. A notebook is open on his lap and he holds a pencil in his right hand. A bowl is on the seat to his left. While he did not participate in the 1916 Easter Rising, Figgis was arrested and interned [under the Defence of the Realm Act 1914] by the British authorities in Reading Gaol between 1916-1917; following his release in 1917 he was (along with Austin Stack) elected Honorary Secretary of the Sinn Féin party.
