Summary:Plan of the principal floor in Mount Kennedy, Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow by James Wyatt, 1772 (which was carried out by Thomas Cooley, ca. 1782) for General Robert Cuninghame (1726-1801) [who was created Baron Rossmore of Monaghan in the County of Monaghan in 1796]. This plan details the location of the dining room [with "recess for sideboards" indicated], the butlers' bedroom, an oval shaped withdrawing room, Mr. Cuningham's dressing room, a family bedchamber, a library [with "recess for bookcase" indicated]with adjacent spaces detailing the location of an archive, a water closet and a "light closet". The architectural drawings numbered PD AD 3125 - PD AD 3138 were previously bound together in a modern binding in the NLI on 30 June 1978 and are sometimes known as the Wyatt-Penrose volume as Thomas Penrose (1740-1792), engineer and architect, acted as James Wyatt’s agent/assistant for his Irish works from 1772 until 1787. Wyatt sent his architectural drawings from his London office to Penrose in Ireland to be executed. Penrose was subsequently appointed Inspector of Civil Buildings following the death of Thomas Cooley in 1784.
