Summary:Front elevation of Abbeyleix House, Abbeyleix, Co. Laois by James Wyatt for Thomas Vesey, 2nd Baron Knapton, who was created 1st Viscount de Vesey in 1776. One of several architectural drawings (numbered PD AD 3125 - PD AD 3138) that were bound together and which are sometimes known as the Wyatt-Penrose volume as Thomas Penrose (1740-1792), engineer and architect, acted as James Wyatt’s agent/assistant for his Irish works from 1772 until 1787. Wyatt sent his architectural drawings from his London office to Penrose in Ireland to be executed. Penrose was subsequently appointed Inspector of Civil Buildings following the death of Thomas Cooley in 1784. On verso of this sheet are two late 19th century NLI stamps bearing the words "National Library of Ireland" with both surmounted by the [British] Crown.
