A Wilde trip to America
[graphic] : 1 - Mr. Oscar Wilde expressed his disappointment with the Atlantic ocean. The above sketch will, perhaps, partly explain "the reason why".
Summary: | Verso of pages 18 and 23 of the January 28th 1882 [Vol. 3. No. 5] issue of "Pat". Black and white chromolithograph featuring four images of Oscar Wilde; in the first he is depicted on board a ship, seasick, a rose in one hand; he is being offered Russian cigarettes and spirits by a seaman. The second image shows him on deck in conversation with fellow passengers ["The text continues 2 - Mr Oscar Wilde deck-claring his idea of the trip"]. In the third image he is shown having been flung from the desk, into the sea where the jaws of a shark can be seen [3 - "I wish that I could see a storm arise and sweep the bridge from off the ship". Mr. Wilde might think differently were he on that bridge]. The final image shows him on stage, having arrived in America [4 - We may expect soon to hear of Mr. Wilde being disappointed with America] . |
