Summary: | In 1936, the play 'Plough and the Stars' was adapted into a film by American director John Ford, starring Barbara Stanwyck and Preston Foster. Lyng writes of looking up old friends and his time in America "....I went looking up old friends and found so many of them had kept their date with the funeral director that I was lonesome. Life in America is nomadic. Yearly or half-yearly in non-lease apartments, we exchange dwellings and leave our bugs and dirt to the landlord to paint and fumigate. We discard everything not having a present usefulness.". |
