Oelsner, M.A., Ph.D. (author of "The influence on Dante on modern thought," "Dante in France," etc.). The Italian text is based on the editions of Witte, Moore and Casini. The translation and arguments have been reprinted, with certain alterations, from the second (copyright) edition of Dr, Carlyle's famous version ... the notes by Dr. Oelsner, are entirely new. John Aiken Carlyle, M.D., younger brother of Thomas Carlyle planned an English prose translation of the whole of Dante's poems ..."--General editorial note, page 401.
