Brennan's memoir was serialised in the 'Irish Press' from April to May 1958 and later published as 'Ireland Standing Firm, My Wartime Mission in Washington and Eamon De Valera, A Memoir' (University College Dublin Press, 2002).

Robert Brennan was appointed Secretary to the Irish Legation in Washington in 1934 and Irish Minister to Washington from 1938 to 1947.
