Four volumes bound as issued in two.

A record of three holidays in Ireland: to Connemara and May and a journey through the Midlands, Summer 1884; to the North including Donegal, August 1886; and to the South including Wicklow, Wexford, Killlarney, Clare, Kerry and Cork, August 1887. Bennett and his travelling companion, John E. Richarson, were both former radicals now turned conservative. Although vehemently opposed to Parnell and Gladstone's Irish policy and somewhat given to digressing into diatribes against these they went with 'open ears and eyes and independent minds, determined as far as possible, to discard our prejudices, to enjoy a holiday, and to learn the truth.' They saw themselves as a 'sort of amateur commission of enquiry.'
