Funeral entries were a means by which the heraldry already in use in Ireland could be recorded. The death of an armiger was recorded, showing or describing their heraldry and perhaps giving family details, date, place and cause of death and perhaps funeral arrangements. In 1627 a decree made the recording of the death of an armiger obligatory and their heir or executor was obliged to submit details to Ulster King of Arms.
