Summary:Depicts a scene from Napoleon's funeral following the exhumation of his remains and their transport to Paris (this followed on from what is known as the "retour des cendres" ["return of the ashes"] which saw the mortal remains of Napoleon I of France brought from the island of St Helena to France) and their burial in the Hôtel des Invalides in Paris in 1840, on the initiative of Adolphe Thiers and King Louis-Philippe.
