Summary: | April 1931 issue of 'Irish Freedom', containing a series of poems and articles. Text [underneath an illustration of an Easter lily and surrounded by interlace design] reads:"Men and women of Ireland / Honor the dead who died for / Ireland, the dead who gave their lives in attempting to break the British / Connection, the sources of all our ills. Remember 1798, 1803, 1848, 1867, 1916, 1922". Poems printed in this issue include 'The women of Ireland' and 'Eye of deportation' by Terence MacSwiney, 'Banba's dead' by Daniel Corkery, 'Thoughts of sorrow' by Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa and 'Our dead' by Teresa Brayton. Featuring a number of advertisements promoting Irish businesses and produce; an article on Cumann na mBan, an advertisement aimed at London based Republican supporters and a small advertisement for publications [such as 'Tragedies of Kerry' by Dorothy Macardle, 'Unconquered Ireland' by Brian O'Higgins and 'A National Catheism for Children'] that can be purchased from Gobnait Ní Bhrudair [Albinia Broderick], Balincoola, Castlecove, Killarney [Co. Kerry]. |
