Bibliographic Details
Main Creator: Duffy, George Gavan, 1882-1951
Summary:Leaflet refers to the resignation of Gavan Duffy on the outbreak of the Irish Civil War and his candidature to the 1923 general election as an independent candidate. Containing the following: "The truth is that before the Civil War I resigned because the Provisional Government, on the eve of the general election in June of last year, threw away in London a splendid Constitution drawn up by their own experts - a Constitution which would have gone a very long way to secure peace in Ireland... That decision seemed to me the outward proof of a mental attitude that would sanction any lawlessness in an emergency. My attitude on the Treaty has also been misrepresented. Ireland will never realise the full fruits of the Treaty until settled conditions are restored". At foot of sheet: "Vote for the deputy who dares to do his duty".
