An application of mercy, dated 1801, signed by the Grand Jury of County Carlow at the summer assizes of that year recommeding that Matthew Jenkinson and James Jenkinson, found guilty of stealing lambs be considered "objects of mercy pursuant to the statute" (and not be transported to Australia).Signed by members of the Colclough and Butler families amongst several others.8
