Summary:The Crescent, Monkstown is part of the main road from Blackrock to Dun Laoghaire, about one mile west of Dun Laoghaire town centre. At the west end stands the Church of Ireland parish church of Monkstown, an extraordinary pile built in 1835 to the design of John Smyth and variously described as 'imposing' and 'grotesque'. It is extremely unique. Cn the south side of the street there is a crescent-shaped terrace of dwelling houses, which gives the Crescent its characteristic appearance. This early 19th century terrace comprises of fifteen houses, eleven being 'one storey above garden level' and four being single storey. Over the years, there has been an erratic development of conversion of mews buildings on the north side of the street, but the Crescent retains much charm and elegance.
