Summary:As with many rural communities, Schull has a history of attempts, with varying success, to develop small-scale industries, often logically connected with food processing. In the case of 'Ceramics Ireland', however, Frank Wilson has established a, perhaps, unexpected enterprise with markets stretching from Boston to Germany to Tokyo. His success might be attributed to his own natural, practical talents, to the experience made possible by other small, local businesses, to the existence of a pool of talented young men and women, and to vital support and advice from EOLAS and IDA, as well as to the identification of an empty niche in the field of industrial heaters.
