Summary: | Work is well under way on the construction of a new weir across the river Lagan, just above the Customs House. The weir has been designed not just to control the level of water in the river, but also as a tourist attraction. A footbridge will enable visitors to obtain fine views down the harbour as well as an opportunity of seeing how the weir works. A circular visitors' centre has been constructed at the city end of the weir, adjacent to Lanyon & Lynn's Customs House(1854-1857)with it's carved pediments by Thomas Fitzpatrick. |
