Another visit to Sligo Town but with a very different view and skyline to that of our visit to "The Quays"! With the detritus of a recent market lying about it doesn't look very attractive but Sligo - the town and especially the county are much underrated! The welcome is warm, the scenery is stunning and the food is first class. But who is wanted and why?
Several contributors pointed-out that we've visited this stretch of Market Street before, and had dated the statue (which replaced this lamppost) to c.1899. Putting this image before that date. In terms of the subject of the "Wanted" poster, the general consensus is that its a tailoring business (Clinchy's) who are seeking journeymen tailors. With "several good men" wanted....
Photographer: Robert French
Date: Catalogue range c.1865-1914. Certainly before c.1899 (when lamppost replaced w/statue). Perhaps c.1890s (buildings)

I wonder did they find their Several Good Men. Could they handle the truth? No Lady Erin Monument? Or is it out of the shot? It was erected in 1899. Sleaters is now Cosgroves grocers. www.google.es/maps/@54.2704365,-8.4735034,3a,75y,192.09h,...

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/65379774@N02] I think it's Kilgallin with a G. There are several Kilgallins menioned in the Sligo Champion over the years, notably architect P J Kilgallin.

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/65379774@N02] I'd say it's B. Kilgallin (rather than Kilcallin) - there are 32 Kilgallins in the 1901 census and 17 Kilgallins in the 1911 census, all in counties Mayo and Sligo

I've looked for adverts in the 'situations vacant' columns for journeyman tailors wanted, and there are plenty, but nearly all in the Londonderry Sentinel, the Derry Journal, the Cork Examiner or the Skibbereen & West Carbery Eagle; or, South Western Advertiser , and nothing in between.
