John Martin Anster, (17931867), poet, was born 1793 in Charleville, Cork and is best known for his translation of Goethe's Faust. He also held the post of regius professor of civil law in Dublin University until his death. Anster was closely involved with founding the Dublin University Magazine, to which he contributed (183756) much prose and verse.
