Summary: | Richard Crosbie, (1755-1800), whole-length, standing and looking to left, right hand stretched out, holding leopard skin hat, wearing long fur lined coat. On 19 January 1785, Crosbie was the first person to ascend in a balloon in Ranelagh [see image at NLI call number ET C124]. It was noted on the day that he was dressed in a robe of oiled silk lined with white fur, his waistcoat and breeches were made of quilted satin, that he wore Moroccan boots and had a Montero cap made from leopard skin. |
