This is a copy of an original by Angelo Maria Bigari which is preserved in the Austin Cooper Collection as 2122 TX (3) 3 - see catalogue entry for more details. The human figures in the original have been omitted from the copy, and the style in the copy is more fleeting and impressionistic. The J.S. Cooper who signed his name to the drawing may be Jonathon Sisson Cooper (ca.1777-1850) who, however, would only have been 17 years old at the time of the execution of this drawing

Watermark u.r. on sheet bears the letters LEDARY (probably part of the name Villedary), with letters (probably I S) above
