| Summary: | View of the ruins of the Franciscan friary at Ennis, County Clare, Ireland, showing the thirteenth-century triple-light window, the south chapel, and the central tower with its pyramidal roof (since replaced with a battlemented tower). The nave of the friary looks as if it had been roofed at the time. The building is situated behind a high wall, in front of which stands a farmer with stick and a cow. In the foreground are the head and shoulders of a man wearing a cocked hat, this could be the artist himself. |
