Notes:Seán Ó Lúing was born on 16th May 1917 in Ballyferriter, Co. Kerry. In 1929 he entered St Patrick's junior seminary, Killarney and graduated in 1939. He taught Irish and mathematics in St Joseph's CBS, Portarlington, Co. Laois from 1940 to 1941. He then taught history in the University Tutorial Institute, Harcourt St., Dublin, from 1941 to 1943. He obtained a post in the translation section of the houses of the Oireachtas in 1943. In 1949 he married Marie Thérèse Sloane from Wexford. He spent time in Brussels during 1970 to 1971 translating the European treaty of accession into Irish. In 1973 he was promoted to chief translator and remained in that position until his retirement in 1982. His biographies include 'Art Ó Gríofa'(1953), 'John Devoy' (1961), 'Ó Donnabháin Rossa' (1969–79), 'A life of Thomas Ashe'. He contributed to many journals and newspapers including 'The Irish Time' and 'Journal of the Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society'. He died on 10th February 2000 in Dublin.
