Notes:James L. O'Donovan was born on 3 November 1896 in County Roscommon. He was also known as Seamus or Jim O'Donovan. He was a leading volunteer in the Irish Republican Army and Nazi Collaborator. He fought in the Irish War of Independence. He opposed the Anglo-Irish Treaty and fought on the Anti-Treaty IRA side in the Irish Civil War as Director of Chemicals. In 1930, he became a manager at ESB headquarters in Dublin. O'Donovan is best known for his contacts with the Abwehr military intelligence of Nazi Germany. In 1940, he was involved in setting up Córas na Poblachta, a party which proved unsuccessful. He died on 4 June 1979 in Dublin.
