Notes: | Includes index. This is the comprehensive history of the 27th Infantry Division, with volume I detailing the entire history and campaigns with some photos, and numerous fold-out maps and charts. Volume II is virtually all explanatory lists of the soldiers' names, those that had died, dates of engagements, etc., appendices, and has an extensive index for both volumes at the rear. The unit patch of the 27th is a clever little pun. The red stars depict the Orion constellation, punning on the surname of the 27th's commander, General John F. O'Ryan. The red circle on the outside is an "O", also for "O'Ryan." The letters inside form the monogram "NYD," for "New York Division," also reminiscent of a battle axe.
