Notes:Born before 1658 in Tullinally, County Westmeath, the son of Captain Robert Stearne and Anne Stearne (née Stevens) [and later when she remarried, Pakenham]. Brigadier General Robert Stearne made a will in Dublin dated 25 June 1729; he died on 1 November 1732.

An infantry regiment in the British Army and first raised in 1684, The Royal Irish Regiment was known variously as the 18th Regiment of Foot, the 18th (Royal Irish) Regiment of Foot and the 18th (The Royal Irish) Regiment of Foot until 1881 when it was renamed. Its' home depot was Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. The regiment was disbanded following the foundation of the independent Irish Free State in 1922. Brigadier-General Robert Stearne served as colonel of the regiment from 18 February 1712 to 23 December 1717.
