[Postcard] Bárr na maidne dhuit

Summary:Colour postcard (published by Brown & Rawcliffe Ltd., Liverpool as part of their B & R Series) featuring an illustration of a man, seen from behind, holding a shillelagh [a blackthorn or oak stick]. He is depicted wearing a hat of dark green coloured material, a light green coloured coat and knickerbocker-style trousers that end at the knee; he wears green stockings and shoes with buckles. Written in manuscript hand on the card in black ink is “Johnny”. The man depicted on the postcard links arms and is dancing with a red-haired woman. She wears a dress of yellow coloured material, a red neckerchief and dark green stockings. Written in manuscript hand on the card in black ink is “Nellie” and printed adjacent to this on the postcard [though it looks as though it is in manuscript hand, it is not] “Two of Irish (hot)”. A green coloured harp is depicted in the bottom left and bottom right corner of the postcard, along with a profusion of green shamrocks. The title is printed in black ink in Cló Gaelach at top right of postcard "Bárr na maidne dhuit" and underneath this is printed [though it looks as though it is in manuscript hand it is not] "The top of the morning to ye". Written in manuscript hand on verso is: “Dearest N [Nellie] / Thanks for your nice c. [card?] & good wishes. It is / just beginning to grow. / Avec d’amour [With love] / Jack”. Postcard is addressed in black ink in manuscript hand on verso to "Miss Nellie Kennedy / St. Dominics' Place / Dun Dalgan [Dundalk]". Postcard is franked top right “Dublin / 6.40 pm / JU 1 / 05 [1905]”. Printed on postcard in brown coloured ink is: "B. & R. Series".
